Digital Investigator of the Year

We had some incredible nominations and the competition was fierce within this group, some truly great work completed by some incredibly dedicated officers

Here’s our shortlist:

Metropolitan Police Service

An investigator was involved in tackling moped-enabled robberies and thefts in London when he identified how the Cerberus phone APP could be used to track and trace a stolen phone, the offenders involved and gather evidence to use in court. This new and innovative investigative tactic led to an organised criminal group being investigated and successfully prosecuted.

Metropolitan Police Service

A SPoC officer worked on an investigation that ended with two men being convicted of murder. Utilising various intelligence sources, overlayed with communications data, the SPoC officer was able to lead officers to an address and two men were arrested for an unprovoked violent attack on a young girl who had been sitting in a park. The young girl died on the way to the hospital, but the SPoC’s work was integral to identifying and apprehending the offenders.

Bedfordshire Police

A negotiator worked on a kidnap case involving a 25 year old, pregnant woman who had been kidnapped by her partner’s family whilst on holiday in his home country of Sudan. Utilising information obtained through the location information provided on the WhatsApp application, and working closely with the Foreign Commonwealth Officer and Sudanese authorities, the negotiator was able to identify the house where she was being held and secured her safe return to the UK.
